Founded in 2012 by Father Emmanuel Katongole, Father Cornelius Ssempala, and Father Anthony Rweza, BLI is located on a 400+ acre campus in Nandere, Luweero District. We recognize the inherent connection between the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor.

A sustainable teaching campus forming Caretakers in the practices, lifestyle, and spirituality of sustainable land care and food production.

The business hub of BLI enabling trainees to develop entrepreneurship skills through our savings cooperative and market initiatives.

Certificate in Integral Ecology
A comprehensive program focused on integral ecology, regenerative agriculture, environmental conservation, and community leadership. Integrates scientific knowledge with practical skills to address deforestation, food security, poverty, and unemployment.
Junior Certificate in Integral Ecology
A 3-year formation program for P7 candidates that combines Integral Ecology, regenerative agriculture, entrepreneurship, and community leadership through hands-on learning.
Integral Ecology Practitioners Program
A 2-year program for practitioners focused on Integral Ecology in action—deepening skills in regenerative agriculture, environmental restoration, and local entrepreneurship.
Forming Leaders in Integral Ecology for Rural Transformation
BLI offers multiple Integral Ecology programs, including 2-year and 3-year residential certificates, a 2-year practitioners program, and Outreach Programs for groups. We empower local students and communities to combat environmental degradation, food insecurity, and poverty through practical hands-on learning and spiritual formation.

Learn sustainable land care on our demonstration farm with livestock, soil health, herbal gardens, and seed multiplication sections.
Integral Ecology Focus
Inspired by Laudato Si', we integrate environmental care with social justice, economics, and spiritual formation.
Residential Community
Live and learn alongside fellow Caretaker Trainees in a supportive residential program on campus.
Economic Empowerment
Develop entrepreneurship skills through Martha's Market SACCO, learning to invest, borrow, and sell your harvests.
Caretaker Trainees in Action
Experience life at BLI's 400+ Acre Teaching campus section in Nandere, Luweero District. Our Caretaker Trainees work and learn in our practical learning centres, rotating through livestock care, soil health management, herbal gradens, natural fertilizers, natural pesticides, agroforestry systems, vegetable production, waste management. each trainee is assigned a 10x10m plot where they execute real life projects (innovations) in livestock management,crop production,environmental conservation and farm structure.

Meet Our Teaching Staff
There are two categories of Teaching Staff, Formatters(Classroom Instructors) and Incubators(Field instructors). An incubator(do practicals with students) is an assistant to formatter creating a better way of transferring knowledge and skill to learners , while a Formatter delivers theoretical instruction, designs lesson plans, explains core concepts, and guides students’ academic understanding within the classroom environment. Each instructor brings years of practical expertise and a passion for transforming rural Uganda.
